‘Snehaneer’ Special School
(Run and Managed by Satabdi Women’s Organisation For Social Welfare)As the name indicates, ‘Snehaneer’ is the home for the children with certain physical and intellectual disabilities where they are treated with utmost love and care with the object of identifying and reducing the impact of their disabilities through education, training, sporting activities, recreation and spreading social consciousness. The aim is to build confidence amongst the special children so they can do certain things in their daily life themselves and to rehabilitate them in their families and the society which in turn help the parents to live with their children happily.
With the above objects in view, Snehaneer started its operation as a special school in the year 2001 at Uttarpara, Hooghly set up, run and managed by Satabdi Women’s Organisation For Social Welfare, Kolkata (Satabdi). The school was recognised by the Government of West Bengal in 2009. The school is successfully carrying out the objectives for which it was set up for over two decades by the able and dedicated Governing Body of Satabdi with the help and support of the Government of West Bengal, local philanthropic organisations and numerous well wishers.

To remove all sorts of discrimination and deprivation that the intellectually and physically challenged students face in the society.
Our Vision
Creation of safe, inclusive and stimulating environment for the physically and intellectually challenged children where they can grow and develop some skills which should help them to have a sustainable life in the society.
Activities Undertaken :
- General education
- Vocational training
- Assessment, therapy and training including Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy
- Counselling by professional Counsellors
- Sports & games and Yoga classes
- Dance and Music classes
- Recreational activities
- Mid-day meal is provided to the students as per Govt. Scheme
- Birthdays of the students are celebrated at the school
- A few students engaged in the vocational training get stipend from the school
By virtue of taking part in the above developmental activities, some of our students are now better placed in the society and have been able to get jobs generating some earnings for themselves. A few of our students, after completion of their training, have been recruited by the school for certain school jobs which they are successfully doing.
The strength of Snehaneer inter alia lies in the following :
- Relentless efforts put in by the members of Satabdi in achieving the mission of giving better quality of life to the special children
- A dedicated team of management, teachers and staff.
- A building of the desired size on a plot of land leased out to the society by the Government of West Bengal for a 30 year term. There is also a small ground attached to the school where the students perform outdoor activities with a play ground owned by the Society
- Donations from the Government, local charitable organisations and well wishers
Recognitions :
- Satabdi, the parent body is registered as a society set up for providing various philanthropic services to the society
- Snehaneer is registered under Persons With Disabilities Act, 1995
- Donations to Satabdi are eligible for tax deduction under section 80(G) of the Income Tax Act, 1961
- Students of Snehaneer awarded stipends by the Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for the Handicapped (VRCH), Govt. of India
- The school received under the local MP LAD for construction of the building on the land leased out to us by the Government of West Bengal
